Who is Optimist

Optimist Music ZA is a singer and songwriter from Pretoria. Born Thabo Musa began his musical
career at the age of 17 as rapper before truly finding himself, writing and recording rap
songs, which were mostly inspired by Kendrick Lamar during his Good Kid M.A.A.D City
times. At the time, Optimist was not yet aware that he could also sing; that was really the
very beginning stages of his career.

Optimist attended High school at Mamelodi High. In 2014, inspired by “The Soil” group, he
joined a school choir and soon discovered his talent and passion for singing. Later that year,
he was further introduced to a well-known group in Mamelodi called G.P Afro, the group
performed Gospel, Afro Soul and Jazz in churches, Afro Soul events and poetry sessions all
over Mamelodi. Whilst continuing to make his music, Optimist met and started working with
DJ Nyico Loco in 2016, one of the best DJ’s in Mamelodi. As a result, they recorded and
released a couple of house tracks for Nyico’s album.

In 2017, Optimist performed his song called “My City” at the MBC talent show where he was
spotted by Ofentse B who was present on that day could not help it but notice the talent that
Optimist possessed and soon thereafter he made it certain that Optimist and Bhut’ Rudolph
meet which was not hard for him since they attended High school together..

Optimist was featured in one of Bhut’ Rudolph’s songs called “I know (ft. Darlianoh x Vodka
shots & cakes)” which was released in late 2017.

In 2018 Optimist and Bhut’ Rudolph then both later started working on Optimist’s first EP
titled “PLANS” which was released on the 15th of August under Godly Touch Media which saw Optimist having a partnership deal with the recording label. Late in 2018, Optimist
graced backings on a song called Insimbi by Blacklez, Sbuda juice and T.Appolus, which
was produced by SILUS, one of the most prominent music producers in Johannesburg.

In 2019 he followed up by his latest full body project “Let Me Speak My Mind” after the
success of the lead single “My Boo”, the project gets production from his childhood friend
Thatso Vezi on Guitar most of times and label mate Bhut’ Rudolph on primary or additional
production.

His New single is called “Intando”, Produced by Thatso Vezi & OneDee with additional
programming from Bhut’ Rudolph

On the new single it explores the same subject matter as what LMSMM talks about and adds
a house flavour so you can move to the message
